2025 Wimbledon Draw: Alcaraz, Gauff Handed Eye-Catching First-Round Matchups
Carlos Alcaraz is set to launch his quest for a third straight Wimbledon title by taking on the fiery Fabio Fognini in the first round at Centre Court on Monday, as he aims to extend his career-best 18-match winning streak.
The singles draw for this year’s grass-court Grand Slam was revealed on Friday, setting up intriguing potential men’s quarterfinal matchups: top seed Jannik Sinner could meet No. 7 Lorenzo Musetti; No. 4 Jack Draper might face No. 6 Novak Djokovic, a seven-time Wimbledon champion; No. 2 Alcaraz is on track for a showdown with No. 8 Holger Rune; and No. 3 Alexander Zverev could take on No. 5 Taylor Fritz.
In the women’s draw, No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka could face No. 6 Madison Keys, and No. 4 Jasmine Paolini may meet No. 5 Zheng Qinwen in the top half. The bottom half features No. 2 Coco Gauff, who opens against Dayana Yastremska and could meet either No. 8 Iga Swiatek or 2022 champion Elena Rybakina, while No. 3 Jessica Pegula might face 17-year-old rising star Mirra Andreeva (No. 7).
The top half of the men’s draw is stacked, with Sinner, Djokovic, Draper, Musetti, No. 10 Ben Shelton, No. 13 Tommy Paul, and Kazakhstan’s unpredictable Alexander Bublik, who recently claimed his second Halle title by defeating Sinner and reached his first Grand Slam quarterfinal at Roland Garros.
If Alcaraz and Sinner win their respective matches, they could only meet again in the Wimbledon final on July 13 — a rematch of their thrilling French Open final, where the 22-year-old Alcaraz secured his fifth major title.
